The "Fuel Cell Compass" presents a current extract from fuel cell producers in North America. It is clear that the implications of the "Inflation Reduction Act" are not yet visibly reflected in the development of new production capacities. In Canada, manufacturers are particularly located in Burnaby, in the greater Vancouver area, which is to be developed into Canada's "hydrogen hub".

Territorial distribution in the USA

In the United States, an accumulation of production capacities on the West Coast is becoming apparent. A number of manufacturers are located around the New York metropolitan area in particular. In contrast, there are currently only two production facilities on the east coast, although California is actually considered the "stronghold" of hydrogen in the USA itself. It remains to be seen whether this territorial shift will soften in the context of the "Inflation Reduction Act" and its implications.

"Hydrogen Hub" in and around Vancouver

Most Canadian fuel cell manufacturers are currently based in Burnaby, Greater Vancouver. This is due to the goals of politicians and the hydrogen industry, who want to establish a "hydrogen hub" there and place as many players as possible along the hydrogen value chain here. Compared to the USA, however, the conditions seem less attractive, as there are significantly more production facilities and manufacturers in the United States in terms of sheer numbers.
