European fuel cell manufacturers

The "Fuel Cell Compass" presents a current extract of PEM fuel cell producers in Europe. Since the last issue (June 2023), the European fuel cell industry has continued to grow: While only the opening of new development and production facilities is planned in the UK and France, Germany also plans to expand existing factories. As a result, German producers will remain the largest fuel cell manufacturers in Europe in the medium term.

Requirements for dealing with new technologies

The trend towards not only researching fuel cells and hydrogen technologies in highly developed countries, but also manufacturing them, is continuing and demonstrates the location factors involved. Industrialised nations in particular appear to be able to meet the high production standards and have the corresponding know-how to handle such technologies. In addition, there are major government subsidies in the field of hydrogen, which benefit the development of a national hydrogen economy.

Application areas with the greatest growth

It is also noticeable that the production of PEM fuel cells for personal and goods transport in particular is becoming increasingly important and a production infrastructure is therefore being established. Nevertheless, systems for maritime use and stationary energy generation are also being developed. Research is therefore being conducted and structures established in many fields of application.

Becoming an active part of the industry

All interested parties are invited to share general comments or information on companies not listed via comment or direct message. Feedback is also welcome on which continents and products from the hydrogen value chain would benefit from future market overviews.

Important note

Although the maps of the "Fuel Cell Atlas" illuminate the fuel cell and hydrogen market from many different perspectives and business areas, they do not claim to be exhaustive. Nevertheless, all contributors are invited to help keep it up to date. The Fuel Cell Compass team will be happy to consider any suggestions and additions.
